Eva Wakolbinger

Eva Wakolbinger was born in
Croatia but has lived in Austria with her husband for almost 40
years. They have a grown son and daughter and four grandchildren.
As Eva’s children grew up,
she had more time for her own hobbies. She began making cloth dolls
at first, moved on to porcelain and then finally to clay. She
started sculpting senior citizens, clowns, fantasy and children. In
1998 Eva sculpted her first baby and realized this is exactly what
she was meant to do. She was so pleased with the results and worked
hard to perfect every detail.
Eva’s babies are very
lifelike. They are chunky and cuddly with great expression, so full
of character. Eva sculpts in modelene or cernit because these clays
look more alive and like human skin. Her babies measure 20 to 24
inches in length and are weighted to about 8 pounds. Until recently
Eva used a granulate filling for the body but has now switched to a
brand new silicone body which is very wonderful to hold and pose.
She uses the highest quality mohair and hand blown crystal glass
eyes. Eva’s babies are nicely dressed, many with hand knitted
sweaters. Each baby comes with a certificate of authenticity signed
by Eva.
Her collectors often call
Eva’s babies "Waki Babies". One thing that is for certain, once you
have one "Waki Baby", you will want more! They are truly works of
art and are so much fun to hug.
